| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Galba facing right, depicted with aged, heavily lined features characteristic of his portraiture, with short cropped hair beneath the laurel wreath. The effigy displays a draped shoulder and presents a strongly realistic, veristic treatment consistent with Flavian-era portraiture. The surrounding legend runs clockwise along the beaded border of the flan. The die work is bold and deeply struck, with the portrait occupying the central field in high relief. |

Galba's nine-month reign generated an unusually dense propagandistic coinage, with types like this one broadcasting the loyalty of the provincial armies — a pointed message given that it was precisely those armies, the Rhine legions in particular, that were already preparing to betray him. The CONCORDIA PROVINCIARVM legend was aspirational rather than descriptive; Vitellius was proclaimed emperor by the legions of Lower Germany in January 69, less than two months before Galba's murder in the Roman Forum.
