The figure is rendered with crisp detail, the shield face plain and prominent at centre. The reverse type commemorates Domitian's celebration of the Ludi Saeculares (Secular Games) of AD 88, and the encircling legend naming his fourteenth consulship frames the design. The composition is typical of Flavian Domitianic reverse iconography emphasising ceremonial and religious authority. |
