Struck under Domitian as Caesar during the joint reign of Vespasian, this issue dates to a politically careful moment — Domitian held the consulship for the fifth time in 77 AD but exercised little real power, Vespasian having made clear that Titus was his intended successor. The COS V designation pins the issue to a narrow window before Vespasian's death in June 79.
RIC II.1 #957 falls within the revised Flavian chronology established by the 2007 second edition, which substantially reorganized earlier attributions from Mattingly and Sydenham.
