Clodius Albinus struck this issue from his base in Britain and Gaul following Septimius Severus's calculated offer of the Caesar title in 193 — a political maneuver Severus never intended to honor. The SAEC FRVGIF reverse type was a deliberate propaganda bid, invoking an age of fertility and abundance to legitimize a governor-turned-claimant who controlled the western legions but lacked Rome itself. The alliance collapsed by 195, and Severus declared Albinus a public enemy. Full confrontation came at Lugdunum in February 197.
