She holds a long sceptre or wand vertically in her right hand, while her extended left hand points downward toward a globe resting on the ground at her feet, symbolising foresight over the world. The figure is draped in a long tunic and mantle. The surrounding legend PROVID AVG COS proclaims the Providentia (foresight) of the Augustus and his consulship. The composition is typical of Severan-era reverse iconography emphasising imperial virtues. |
