Claudius issued this type in 44 AD, the same year he received the submission of eleven British kings without a battle — a diplomatic windfall he exploited heavily in his propaganda. The PACI AVGVSTAE legend tied his principate to Augustan peace ideology, but the inclusion of Nemesis alongside Pax was pointed: retributive justice as the guarantor of that peace, a pairing with obvious relevance to a regime still consolidating power after the chaotic end of Caligula's reign.
RIC I 28 is a relatively scarce type within the Claudian silver series.
