The legend DE GERMANIS is inscribed within a rectangular panel set into the face of the arch, serving as a dedicatory inscription commemorating victory over the Germanic tribes. The composition is vigorous and propagandistic, celebrating Claudius's military prestige, and the beaded border frames the entire design on the irregular hammered flan.
