| Reverse description | A triumphal arch rendered in architectural elevation occupies the lower half of the reverse field, its central archway clearly defined. Atop the arch stands an equestrian statue of the emperor galloping to the left, flanked on either side by a tall military trophy composed of captured arms and armour. The legend DE GERMANIS is inscribed within a rectangular panel set into the face of the arch, serving as a dedicatory inscription commemorating victory over the Germanic tribes. The composition is vigorous and propagandistic, celebrating Claudius's military prestige, and the beaded border frames the entire design on the irregular hammered flan. |
