| Obverse description | Bare head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in a naturalistic Imperial portrait style. The bust is draped, with the paludamentum visible at the truncation. The encircling legend reads TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X P P IMP XVIII, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays characteristic features associated with Claudius, including a broad neck and slightly fleshy face. The die work is typical of the mid-first-century Rome mint, exhibiting fine engraving of facial details despite the irregular flan. |
