| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in a naturalistic portrait style typical of early Imperial coinage. The emperor's features are depicted with characteristic physiognomic detail, including a broad neck and slightly furrowed brow. The laurel wreath, symbol of imperial and divine authority, encircles the head. The surrounding legend, interrupted by the portrait, reads TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P, running clockwise around the field. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of this period. |
