正面描述 Bare head of Neptune facing right, with flowing hair and full beard rendered in fine detail; a trident is positioned diagonally below the portrait in the lower field, serving as an identifying attribute of the deity. The legend CASCA LONGVS arcs around the left and upper field, identifying the moneyer Servilius Casca Longus, one of Caesar's assassins and a supporter of Brutus. The entire design is framed by a border of dots. The portrait is executed in a bold, high-relief style characteristic of late Republican coinage.

附加信息

This denarius was struck in the mobile military mint traveling with Brutus during his campaign in Macedonia and Asia Minor — the same months he was assembling the republican forces that would meet Antony and Octavian at Philippi in 42 BC. The obverse type naming Casca Longus identifies Publius Servilius Casca, one of the primary conspirators in the Ides of March assassination, who served as a moneyer for Brutus during this period. It is a remarkable thing: a coin explicitly connecting two of Caesar's killers by name, issued in open defiance of the triumvirs.

Crawford dates the issue to 43–42 BC on stylistic and hoard evidence. Within two years of striking, both Brutus and Casca were dead — Casca's fate at Philippi remains unclear in the sources, but Brutus died by his own hand after the second battle.
