| Reverse description | A round votive shield (clipeus) inscribed CL V occupies the center of the field, flanked on the right by a legionary eagle (aquila) on a staff and on the left by a military standard. The letters S P Q R are distributed in the four corners between the two standards. The composition commemorates the diplomatic recovery of the Roman military standards lost to Parthia at the battles of Carrhae (53 BC) and subsequent defeats, a celebrated achievement of Augustan foreign policy. A dotted border frames the reverse design. |
