| Beschrijving keerzijde | Mars, helmeted and cloaked, depicted standing facing, head turned to the right, in a commanding military posture. The god holds a legionary aquila (eagle standard) in his extended right hand and bears a military standard resting on his left shoulder. The composition commemorates the diplomatic recovery of the Roman standards lost at the Battle of Carrhae (53 BC) and subsequently at other defeats, returned by the Parthians in 20 BC. The legend SIGNIS RECEPTIS is distributed across the field, proclaiming this political and military triumph. |
