| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine high relief with naturalistically detailed hair swept forward in short, layered locks characteristic of Augustan portraiture. The truncation of the neck is unadorned, presenting the emperor's likeness with a classical, idealised restraint. The Latin legend encircles the portrait field, reading CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTVS to the right. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered coinage of this period, and the die engraving displays the accomplished artistry associated with the Spanish mint workshops active under Augustus. |
