Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine high relief with carefully detailed wavy hair swept forward over the brow in the characteristic Augustan portrait style. The effigy presents a youthful, idealized likeness of the emperor consistent with the Prima Porta type. The legend AVGVSTVS is inscribed in Latin along the lower periphery of the field. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, as typical of hammered Augustan denarii from the Spanish mint series.
