正面描述 Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine detail in the Hellenistic portrait tradition, exhibiting carefully modelled hair swept forward in layered waves across the brow and temples. The effigy presents a strong, idealized profile with well-defined facial features characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The encircling legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS runs in the field around the portrait, divided to either side. The flan is slightly irregular in form, as is typical of hammered Roman silver coinage of this period.

附加信息

This denarius belongs to the coinage issued following Augustus's diplomatic recovery of the standards lost by Crassus at Carrhae in 53 BC and by subsequent commanders — a humiliation Rome had nursed for over three decades. The return of the standards in 19 BC required no military campaign; the Parthian king Phraates IV handed them over under political pressure, but Augustus and his mint masters presented the event as a triumph regardless.

RIC I 92 is associated with the Spanish mint at Colonia Patricia, active during this period as Augustus spent considerable time in the western provinces.
