| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine classical style with naturalistic portraiture and detailed hair articulation swept forward over the forehead. The legend is divided around the portrait, reading CAESAR to the left of the effigy and AVGVSTVS to the right, in well-spaced Latin capital letters. The portrait presents the emperor with idealized yet individualistic features consistent with the Augustan propagandistic aesthetic. The field is smooth and uncluttered, allowing the bust to dominate the flan. |
