| Obverse description | Bare head of Mars facing right, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet with an elaborate scroll at the bowl and a long flowing plume trailing behind; the facial features are rendered in fine Hellenistic style with pronounced cheekbones. The abbreviated legend IMP appears in the lower field beneath the truncation, identifying the issuer as imperator. The portrait is set close to the flan, occupying the full field in high relief characteristic of the Actian and early Augustan coinage. |
