Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in finely detailed high relief characteristic of Augustan classicism. The portrait presents the emperor's idealised effigy with close-cropped hair swept forward over the brow in the dynastic style. The smooth, unadorned field frames the bust with no visible legend on the obverse, consistent with this series struck under the moneyer Lucius Mescinius Rufus. The strong jaw and aquiline profile convey the controlled imperial gravitas typical of early Principate coinage.
