Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Augustan classicism. The emperor's features are idealized yet individualized, with neatly rendered hair swept forward over the brow in the dynastic style. The surrounding field bears the circular legend divided around the portrait. No wreath or diadem is present, the bare head serving as the principal device of imperial authority.
