Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the restrained classical style characteristic of Augustan portraiture. The emperor's features are idealized yet individualized, with a firm jawline and carefully rendered hair swept forward over the brow in the manner associated with court sculptural models. The portrait is set within a plain field with no border legend on the obverse, the absence of inscription focusing attention entirely on the imperial effigy. The flan is irregular and slightly worn, as is typical of hammered silver coinage of this period. The portrait conveys the calm authority and divine dignity cultivated in official Augustan imagery.
