| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing frontal figure of Apollo Actius depicted on a raised platform or base, rendered in a long draped garment, with his arms outstretched to either side. In his right hand he holds a patera extended over an altar to the left, while his left arm supports a large kithara (lyre), whose strings are clearly delineated. The deity stands upon a multi-stepped architectural base, evoking the celebrated cult statue of Apollo at Actium, a sanctuary closely associated with Augustus's victory at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. The surrounding Latin legend C ANTIST VETVS IIIVIR APOLLINI ACTIO is distributed around the periphery, with ACTIO appearing in the lower exergue, identifying the moneyer Gaius Antistius Vetus and the Actian Apollo. The composition is emblematic of Augustan religious propaganda celebrating his divine patron deity. |
