Obverse description Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized classical portrait style characteristic of Augustan coinage. The hair is depicted in fine strands swept forward from the crown, with the laurel wreath resting prominently above the brow. The legend encircles the effigy, reading CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE. The portrait is of high artistic quality, consistent with the Lugdunum mint's output in the final years of Augustus's reign.
