背面描述 Gaius Caesar depicted as a military equestrian figure, galloping to the right on horseback, wearing military dress and brandishing a sword in his right hand while carrying a round shield in his left; an aquila (legionary eagle) is shown upright between two military standards planted on the ground below, emphasising dynastic and military themes. The reverse legend C•CAES AVGVS•F is disposed around the upper field within a beaded border. The composition reflects Augustus's programme of promoting his grandsons Gaius and Lucius as heirs, linking them visually with Roman military virtus.

附加信息

This piece dates to the period when Augustus was actively grooming Gaius Caesar as his successor, a campaign of dynastic projection that intensified after 17 BC when Augustus formally adopted both Gaius and his brother Lucius. The "var." designation against RIC I 199 almost certainly reflects the leftward head orientation, which diverges from the standard rightward facing — a die variation documented but not fully catalogued in the first RIC edition, revised in Sutherland's 1984 update.

Gaius died in 4 AD from wounds sustained at the siege of Artagira in Armenia, never having taken power.
