Beschrijving voorzijde Bare head of Augustus facing right, encircled by a civic oak-wreath (corona civica), the wreath rendered with fine leaf detail characteristic of Augustan die-engraving. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic idealized features with neatly combed hair visible beneath the wreath. The circular legend runs around the periphery of the flan, divided by the portrait. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat broad flan typical of late Republican and early Imperial Roman silver coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

This denarius belongs to a group issued under the moneyer Gaius Marius, one of three tresviri monetales appointed in 13 BC — the same year Augustus returned from a three-year campaign in the western provinces and Agrippa was granted tribunicia potestas, cementing his position as heir apparent. The pairing of Augustus and Agrippa on a moneyer issue reflects deliberate dynastic messaging at a politically charged moment, not merely routine production.

The Tromentina tribe designation in the moneyer's name — TRO — is one of the more precisely documented tribal affiliations preserved in this series.
