The Poznań mint operated under a lease system during this period, with successive tenants responsible for both production costs and profit — an arrangement that created chronic incentive to debase the alloy. By the early seventeenth century, Commonwealth denars had fallen so far in public trust that Sejm legislation repeatedly attempted to suppress counterfeit issues flooding in from Silesia and Brandenburg, where foreign mints were striking near-identical coins at even lower silver content.
The five Kopicki reference numbers span individual year varieties across the roughly fifteen-year run, with 1599 being the first year Poznań produced denars under Sigismund III.
