Reverse description A long cross pattée occupies the central field, its arms extending nearly to the cusped quatrefoil frame that encloses the entire reverse design. Two small fleurs-de-lis or lake (lacs d'amour) ornaments are placed in the lateral lobes of the quatrefoil, flanking the horizontal arms of the cross, a heraldic device traditional to Savoyard coinage. The circular legend in Latin, reading mARChIO In ITALIA, proclaims the duke's title as Marquis in Italy. The overall composition is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with the irregular hammered flan visible at the coin's periphery.
