| Obverse description | Bust of Persephone facing left, her hair bound in a wreath of grain leaves, adorned with a pendant earring and a pearl necklace. The goddess is rendered in fine Sicilian style, with carefully detailed facial features characteristic of the early Syracusan school. Behind the neck, in the upper field, the Greek letter Β (beta) appears as a control mark. The portrait is executed with the refined artistry associated with the coinage of Syracuse in the Hellenistic period. |
