| Reverse description | A tall Delphic tripod with pronounced high ring handles and curved volute attachments at the shoulders occupies the central field, rendered with careful three-dimensional perspective. The tripod stands on splayed leonine feet, and two ring-shaped bands encircle the shaft between the legs, lending depth and artistic articulation to the design. The circular legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ (of the Syracusans) is distributed around the periphery of the field in large Greek characters. The composition is bold and well-centered, consistent with the monumental die-cutting of the Agathokles gold issues. |
