Veiled and diademed bust of Queen Arsinoe II facing right, depicted in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with finely rendered hair visible beneath a richly draped veil that falls in deeply engraved folds behind the head. The facial features are idealized yet individualized, conveying divine queenly authority. In the left field, a Greek letter rho (Ρ) appears as a control mark or mint symbol. The portrait is executed with considerable artistic refinement, reflecting the high-quality die-cutting associated with the Alexandrian mint. |

Two cornucopiae (double cornucopia) bound together at their bases and crossed, overflowing at their mouths with fruits, grapes, and other produce, symbolizing the abundance and divine blessing of Arsinoe II's reign. The tops of the cornucopiae are adorned with a stephane decorated with a central triangular ornament flanked by grape clusters and circular finials. The circular legend ΑΡΣΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the coin as an issue in honor of the deified queen Arsinoe Philadelphus. The design is boldly rendered in high relief, consistent with the monumental character of this high-denomination Ptolemaic silver issue. |
