Obverse description A semi-nude allegorical female figure in high relief extends a laurel wreath with her outstretched right hand toward a crashing biplane in the upper left field, while an eagle perches on oak branches in the lower left alongside a Pour le Mérite cross. An engraved date '+ 28. OCTOB 1916' appears in the right field. The lower portion bears the inscriptions 'OSWALD BÖLKE', 'RUHMVOLLER HELD DES LUFTKAMPFES', and '1914–1916' in bold relief lettering, with the engraver's initials 'FK' at lower left.
