| Obverse description | Crowned and armored bust of Saint Ludger facing right, holding a scepter over the right shoulder with the hilt of a sword visible to the right, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The effigy is rendered in the late medieval style typical of Low Countries hammered coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The surrounding legend in Latin reads SANCTVS · LVDERVS · PATRONVS · NOS, invoking Saint Ludger as patron saint. |

Batenburg's coinage in this period occupies a legally ambiguous zone in the Netherlands monetary order. The Barony held minting rights, but its issues were repeatedly challenged by the Habsburg authorities seeking to consolidate control over circulating silver. William V van Bronckhorst exploited that friction deliberately, striking heavy daalders that competed directly with imperial coinage in regional trade while remaining technically within his seigneurial privileges.
The Delmonte S#785 designation places this among the scarcer documented Batenburg types.
