Daalder 'Leeuwendaalder' - William V of Bronckhorst-Batenburg

Batenburg was a minor lordship on the Guelders–Brabant border, and its right to strike silver coinage was legally precarious for much of the sixteenth century. William V exploited the leeuwendaalder's rapid acceptance as a trade coin across the Low Countries to issue under his own name before the broader standardization efforts of the Habsburg administration effectively squeezed out smaller baronial minting authorities. The timing matters: 1564 sits just ahead of the political upheaval that would make such independent issues increasingly impossible.

Batenburg pieces of this type are genuinely scarce by mintage, not merely by survival rate.
