Obverse description Quartered shield of arms combining the devices of Bronckhorst, Brederode, Batenburg, and Mark, surmounted by an elaborate crown and set within an ornate Renaissance cartouche or frame. The heraldic composition is rendered in the angular, detailed style typical of late sixteenth-century Netherlands hammered coinage. The encircling Latin legend identifies the issuing authority as Gertrude of Bronckhorst-Batenburg, Lady of Vianen, with the denomination of thirty stuivers.
