Obverse description Central field dominated by a rampant lion facing right, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Netherlands hammered coinage. The beast is depicted with flowing mane, raised forepaws, and a bifurcated tail, occupying nearly the full diameter of the coin. The figure is contained within an inner beaded or rope border. A Latin circular legend runs between the inner border and the outer toothed rim, reading the titles of Willem IV, Count of Bergh and Lord of Bylant, Hedel, Boxmeer, Homoet, and Wisch, separated by star-shaped stops.
