| Aanvullende informatie |
Jan III Sobieski came to the Polish throne in 1674 following one of the more dramatic royal elections in the Commonwealth's history — his candidacy gained decisive momentum directly from his military victories, particularly the defeat of Ottoman forces at Khotin in 1673. The Gdańsk mint, operating under city privilege rather than direct crown control, produced multi-ducat presentation pieces throughout his reign that functioned more as diplomatic gifts and court currency than commercial coinage. Four-ducat strikes of this type were not struck for circulation.
The Kop(-) reference confirms no standard Kopicki catalog attribution exists, placing this among pieces known primarily through auction appearances and private collections rather than systematic documentation.
