Obverse description Left-facing bust of Brigadier General Chuck Yeager in military flight cap occupies the left portion of the field, with a relief depiction of the Bell X-1 experimental aircraft in flight to the right. Multiple inscribed legends appear in the field and along the upper border, commemorating the 50th anniversary of breaking the sound barrier on October 14, 1947.
