Aanvullende informatie

The cruzado novo under Pedro II represented Portugal's attempt to stabilize silver coinage during a reign defined by financial strain — the Nine Years' War against France drained allied treasuries across Europe, and Portuguese commerce depended heavily on Brazilian silver flows that were perpetually vulnerable to disruption. The Lisbon mint produced this denomination across multiple die marriages catalogued separately by Gomes, accounting for the unusually wide reference spread across P2 74 through P2 80.

Pedro ruled first as regent from 1668 before his brother Afonso VI was formally deposed, then as king from 1683 — a long effective tenure that explains the extended striking period for this type.
