| Opis awersu | Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms — the quinas shield surmounted by a royal crown — set within an inner beaded circle. The mint marks R and L flank the shield to the left and right respectively, identifying the Lisbon mint. The surrounding field bears the royal legend in Gothic lettering, reading the name and title of King João III, arranged within an outer beaded border. The coin exhibits the irregular flan typical of hammered gold coinage of the period, with slight weakness at the margins. |

| Opis rewersu | The reverse presents a plain cross of Calvary (Cruz de Calvário) centered within an inner beaded circle, its shaft terminating at the base upon a stepped Calvary mount rendered in relief. A small crown ornaments the junction of the cross arms. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner circle by a dotted border, carries the Constantinian motto in Latin Gothic lettering. The overall design is simple and devotional in character, consistent with the Cruzado type issued under João III. |
