| Obverse description | Royal arms of Portugal displayed on a crowned shield occupying the central field, featuring five escutcheons in cross formation each charged with five bezants, and eight castles arranged around the border of the shield in the characteristic 3rd type configuration. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown. A beaded inner circle borders the field, with the legend distributed around the periphery between two beaded rims. The entire composition is struck in high-relief hammered gold, typical of Manueline-period Portuguese coinage. |
