| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the elaborate quartered coat of arms of Charles V, incorporating the arms of Castile, León, Aragon, Austria, Burgundy, and Gelderland, with an inescutcheon at the base. The shield is surmounted by an imperial crown of open form, referred to as the 'Zonnekroon' (sun crown), flanked on either side by a firesteel — a Burgundian device of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The circular Latin legend runs along the inner border, identifying Charles as Emperor of the Romans, King of Spain, and Duke of Gelderland and Count of Zutphen. |

| Reverse description | A bold cross with fleur-de-lis terminals divides the reverse into four quarters, each alternately charged with an eagle and a castle tower, referencing the arms of Castile and León. The Guelders cross appears prominently at the top of the design. The encircling Latin legend, beginning with a decorative mullet stop, incorporates the date 1544 at its conclusion, invoking a prayer for divine strength against enemies. |
