Issued to mark the centenary of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan character, who first appeared in Barrie's 1902 novel The Little White Bird before becoming the stage play of 1904. Gibraltar has long exploited its British Overseas Territory status to produce commemorative issues targeting collector markets rather than circulation — this gold piece with applied color is squarely in that category. The .9999 fineness is notably purer than standard British gold coinage of the period.
