The armistice ending World War I came into force at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 — a deliberately symbolic timing chosen by the Allied Supreme Commander Ferdinand Foch, who reportedly called the terms a twenty-year ceasefire rather than a true peace. He was off by less than a year.
The Isle of Man has issued commemorative crowns prolifically since the 1970s, and KM#920a is the silver variant of a base-metal issue struck for the 1999 anniversary.
