| Opis awersu | The obverse depicts a faithful reproduction of the famous Phaistos Disc, the Bronze Age Minoan clay artefact discovered in Crete and dated to approximately 1700 BC. The design faithfully renders the disc's characteristic spiral arrangement of stamped pictographic symbols, divided into segmented compartments radiating outward from a central rosette motif across three concentric registers. The undeciphered Minoan hieroglyphic signs — including human figures, animals, tools, and geometric forms — are rendered in fine relief, conveying the archaeological character of the original artefact. The Greek legend Ο ΔΙΣΚΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΦΑΙΣΤΟΥ (THE PHAISTOS DISC) appears along the lower right rim. The engraver's name ΒΕΓΚΑΗ is inscribed at the base of the design. |
