Obverse description Royal cipher of Carlos III composed of an intertwined 'CAR' monogram within a circular wreath or ring, with the Roman numeral 'VI' positioned below, all within the irregular square flan characteristic of hammered coinage. Small decorative trefoil or rosette ornaments are visible in the field flanking the numeral. The design is boldly struck in relief against a plain field, typical of the crude but functional style of Navarrese copper coinage of the period.

Additional information

Navarre retained its own coinage system well into the Bourbon period — a privilege rooted in the Fueros, the body of laws and customs that guaranteed the kingdom's administrative autonomy even after its absorption into the Spanish Crown in 1512. Carlos III, despite consolidating Bourbon reformist policy across most of the peninsula, left Navarrese monetary arrangements largely intact as a political concession to local institutions. The cornado was among the smallest denominations kept in production under these arrangements.

Cayon's reference places this among a long run with minimal variation across the reign's nearly three decades.
