Pick 166 belongs to a long-running Banco de Portugal series that remained in active circulation well into the 1970s, long after the Estado Novo regime that commissioned it had begun to fracture politically. The note's design was produced by the Portuguese state printing works (Imprensa Nacional), and the series as a whole went through several signature combinations reflecting successive administrations of the bank — making governor signatures a useful dating tool within the type.
The "Diário de Notícias #66" designation identifies this as a collector reissue bundled with the Portuguese newspaper's numismatic partwork series, not a circulated specimen pulled from bank stock.
