Pick 143 belongs to a Banco de Portugal series issued during the early Salazar period — António de Oliveira Salazar became Finance Minister in 1928 and imposed strict fiscal discipline that effectively stabilized the escudo after years of inflationary turbulence. Notes from 1929 onward reflect that stabilization: smaller denominations re-entered circulation with genuine purchasing power for the first time in over a decade.
The "Diário de Notícias" collection reference indicates this example was distributed as a numbered insert through the Portuguese newspaper of that name — a promotional philatelic series, not a reissued note.
