备注

The 100 Réis note of 1891 belongs to a peculiar episode in Portuguese monetary history: the country's severe fiscal crisis that year forced the government to issue low-denomination paper currency to replace the small coinage that had effectively vanished from circulation through hoarding. Paper at this value was deeply unpopular — ordinary Portuguese had little trust in it for everyday transactions, and these small notes were handled constantly and roughly, which is why intact survivors are genuinely uncommon.

This particular example is a modern collector reissue from the Diário de Notícias series, not an original circulated specimen.
