Stabilimento Stefano Johnson — the Milan firm that has struck medals, tokens, and replicas since 1836 — produced this piece for IntesaBci following the 2001 merger of Banca Intesa and Banca Commerciale Italiana. The original Vereinsthaler it replicates was the product of the Dresden Convention of 1838, which standardized coinage across the German states decades before political unification made such coordination official policy.
The Vereinsthaler remained legal tender in Germany until 1908, long outlasting the monetary union that created it.
