Additional information

Banca Commerciale Italiana issued a series of silver replicas in the early 1990s commemorating historic Italian monetary types, of which this piece reproducing a Philip II scudo is one. The original scudo d'argento circulated across the Spanish-controlled Duchy of Milan during Philip II's reign, when Milan functioned as a financial and military hub for Habsburg operations in northern Italy. The replica program was largely promotional in nature, aimed at collectors rather than circulation.
